Notes of Paradise Lost 41-60
And with this ambitious aim he challenged the authority of God and
raised hostile war against God but his attempt was vain and he was defeated.
God driven him out of heaven and he fell in bottomless hell while chasing by
flame, lightning and thunder, where he was to live forever tied by the
unbreakable chains and ever tormented by fire for daring against the
Almighty.
For nine days and nine nights as counted by men, Satan with his
horrified group of other fallen angels remained floating upon the lake of fire
in hell. As he was immortal he did not die. He was doomed to incur more and
more anger of God. As he resuscitated himself and saw around, the loss of
heavenly bliss tormented him, he realized the agony of loss of heavenly bliss
and the pain of hell which he has to bear forever. What his sorrowful eyes saw
around himself, there was dismay and terror everywhere. Satan over viewed hell
as well as he could see, he observed vast dark and gloomy regions.
